After Albrecht DURER (1471-1528) Melencolia Engraving Signed in the plate On Arches wove paper 45 x 31 cm INFORMATION: Created in 1514, Melencolia is one of Albrecht Dürer's most famous engravings. Its symbolically rich world of angels, polyhedra, Masonic and alchemical references, hourglasses and magic squares has provoked passionate study and inspired many artists, most notably Salvador Dali, who often refers to it. Engraved by J. Boiteux after the copy kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and printed in the traditional manner, hand-pulled on a hand press in an intaglio workshop.
