A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Maurice Chapelan was a French writer, journalist, and columnist. Author of the famous *Amour, amours* and *Petit éloge de la nuit*, he was also known for his elegant and ironic columns in *Le Figaro littéraire*. He sometimes wrote under the pseudonym Jean-Pierre Amette. A member of the Académie Goncourt, he was a renowned master of the French language.
