Paul CORCELLET (1910–1993) The Tree of Life, 1979 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Paul Corcellet was a French grocer, caterer, and gastronome. As the heir to the historic “Corcellet” establishment on the Palais-Royal, he ran a renowned small shop on Rue des Petits-Champs (between the Palais-Royal and the Opéra in Paris), a veritable Aladdin’s cave for discerning gourmets. A colorful figure on the Parisian scene from the 1960s to the 1980s, he became known for his rare and exotic products and for his culinary expertise. A book is dedicated to him: *Paul Corcellet, or, The Spices of Life* (1986).
