Albert MEMMI (1920–2020) The Green Flower, 1979 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Albert Memmi was a Tunisian and French writer and sociologist. Author of *La Statue de sel* (1953, with a preface by Albert Camus) and *Portrait du colonisé*, preceded by *Portrait du colonisateur* (1957, with a preface by Jean-Paul Sartre), he explored themes of identity, colonization, and exile. A professor at the Sorbonne, he received the Grand Prix de la Francophonie from the Académie française in 2016.
