Luis PAUWELS (1920–1997) A Solitary Tree, circa 1971 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thereby creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Louis Pauwels was a French journalist and writer. After teaching in the Paris suburbs during World War II, he became editor-in-chief of the newspaper *Combat* in 1949 and founded the magazine *Planète* in 1961, dedicated to esotericism, science fiction, and the great mysteries of the 20th century. He then served as editor-in-chief of *Le Figaro Magazine* starting in 1978 and published numerous works, including *Le Matin des magiciens* (1960), co-written with Jacques Bergier.
