Color engraving framed under glass depicting a Minerva Reserved space to put the 1791 calendar. and figures. Revolutionary period. 36 x 25 cm History: On a pedestal built from the debris of the Bastille, the National Assembly, represented as Minerva seated in the Chaise Curule carried by beams, symbols of strength and union, draws up the constitutional laws on tables supported by a cube, emblem of equality, on which are engraved the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Near her, the Genius of Liberty, armed with the torch of reason, carries the flame through a mound of various privileges, titles, distinctions and other abuses of the ancien régime. The blind prejudices, struck with terror, flee from the dwelling of wisdom and laws, while on the opposite side, a crowd of children, symbols of the 83 départements, receive the Decrees issued by the French Senate with transport, and take the oath to defend them to their last breath. At the foot of the monument, a Frenchman and an Englishman, united by their common love of country, invite to a fraternal confederation a crowd of inhabitants from various lands, including a Turk and an Indian, who stand in ecstasy at the holy words Liberté and Constitution. On the steps, children brought up in the spirit of the revolution, joyfully show the 14th of July to two figures A....... who walk away moodily. At the front, a young woman selling cockades and newsprint cheerfully announces the decrees of the National Assembly. In the shadows, the torn unpatriotic pamphlets can be seen (sic)."
