Hyacinthe L*** - Lot 134
Hyacinthe L*** Portrait of a Woman in a Mountain Landscape Carrying an Indian Girl, 1817 Oil on canvas signed and dated on the right "Hyacinthe L 1817"; bears on the reverse of the frame an old sales label 'L... Re école de Ro... n°122'. 81 x 65 cm Old restorations The first name and initial "L" of the signature, as well as the clues given by the torn label, could perhaps designate the female artist Hyacinthe Lemaire, wife of Dequersonnier, born in 1795, and hitherto known only as a miniature portraitist (Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard, Les peintres en miniatures actifs en France 1650-1850, Les éditions de l'Amateur, 2008, p.346).
