History: Otto Herbert Hajek (1927–2005)
A major figure in postwar German art, Otto Herbert Hajek established himself as one of the leading representatives of European geometric abstraction. A sculptor, painter, and graphic artist, he developed a visual language in the 1960s based on simple forms, architectural structures, and the use of bold colors, often inspired by primary colors. Having participated in several editions of Documenta in Kassel, he gained international renown through his monumental works integrated into public spaces and his innovative exploration of the relationships between art, architecture, and urban planning.
The work on display fully embodies his unique visual universe, where geometric precision is combined with great chromatic power. Even in a more intimate format, it retains all the modernity and artistic power that made Hajek one of the key figures of European abstraction in the second half of the 20th century.
