Michel DANSEL (1935-) The Tree with Black Writing, ca. 1977 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thereby creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Michel Dansel was a French writer and literary critic. He published novels, short stories, and essays, including *Le Temps des mers* (Broquette-Gonin Prize from the Académie française, 1982) and *Le Nègre du Narcisse* (2001). A specialist in comparative literature, he taught at the university level and contributed to several journals, notably *Europe* and *Les Nouvelles littéraires*. He was a member of the French PEN Club and the Writers for Peace Committee.
