A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Francis Esménard is a French publisher and longtime head of Éditions Albin Michel, a publishing house founded by his grandfather in 1902. He helped modernize the publishing house while maintaining a discerning and eclectic editorial line, publishing major authors such as Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Amélie Nothomb, Werber, Houellebecq, and Stephen King in translation. An influential figure in the publishing world, he embodies the continuity of a family tradition at the heart of French literary life.
