A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thereby creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Hugues Gall was a leading French opera director. Born in Honfleur, he served as director of the Grand Théâtre de Genève (1980–1995) and later of the Opéra national de Paris (1995–2004). He played a decisive role in the modernization of French opera, notably by broadening the repertoire and establishing the Bastille stage.
