Robert HIRSCH (1912–2003) To Be or Not to Be, ca. 1976 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Robert Hirsch was a high-ranking French civil servant. He was appointed prefect of Charente-Maritime in 1947, then director general of the National Security Service in 1951. He subsequently became prefect of Seine-Maritime in 1954 and served as president of the Lille region (Nord) as well as the Second Military Region in his capacity as Inspector General of the Administration.
