PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews.
INFORMATION: Magdeleine Hours was a French chemist and art historian. As chief curator of the Louvre Museum’s laboratory, she was a pioneer in the scientific analysis of works of art. She collaborated with major international museums and developed the first methods for dating and identifying ancient pigments. As the author of books on restoration and conservation, she left her mark on the history of modern museology.
