Pierre LOUKI (1920–2006) Tree-like Stem, ca. 1971 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Pierre Louki, whose real name was Pierre Varenne, was a French composer, actor, and writer. He published more than 200 songs performed by artists such as Jean Ferrat, Juliette Gréco, and Isabelle Aubret, and appeared in theater productions in Paris (including *Waiting for Godot* in 1953–54). He published his autobiography, *Quelques confidences*, in 2006, a few months before his death.
