A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Anne Martin-Fugier is a French historian, essayist, and researcher. A specialist in 19th-century French society, she has devoted her work to the artistic and bourgeois circles of the Third Republic. She is the author of several reference works, including *La Vie élégante ou la formation du Tout-Paris (1815–1848)*, *Les Salons de la IIIᵉ République*, and *Les femmes d’artistes*. Her writing style combines scholarly rigor with a talent for characterization.
