Paulette MESTRE (20th century) The Tree with Small Leaves, ca. 1976 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thereby creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Paulette Mestre was the wife of Philippe Mestre, a senior French civil servant and politician. Though she kept a low profile in public life, she supported her husband’s career as a prefect and minister, particularly during his years at the Prefecture of Lower Normandy and later at the Ministry of Veterans Affairs. A well-known figure in administrative and charitable circles in the Vendée region, she participated in several local initiatives supporting the families of veterans.
