PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the public figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thereby creating a unique record of his interviews.
INFORMATION: Ned Rival was a French writer, poet, and journalist. A passionate columnist on song and popular culture, he was a fervent advocate of poetry and singer-songwriter music, particularly that of Brassens and Ferré. As the founder of magazines such as *Les Cahiers de la Chanson* and the organizer of numerous poetry festivals, he also published several collections and essays devoted to French chanson.
