A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thereby creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Emmanuel Roblès was a French writer, playwright, and journalist, born in Oran (Algeria). A close friend of Albert Camus, he belonged to the generation of North African authors who left their mark on 20th-century French literature. Winner of the 1948 Prix Femina for *Les Hauteurs de la ville*, he is also known for his plays and short stories, which are imbued with humanism and explore questions of justice and freedom.
