A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Claude Roy was a French poet, journalist, and writer. A member of the Resistance during World War II, he signed the Manifesto of the 121 in 1960 opposing the Algerian War. A prolific author of poems, short stories, travel journals, and children’s books, he remained a major figure in French literature.
