Pierre SERGENT (Captain) (1926–1992) Surrealist Trees, ca. 1972 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Pierre Sergent was a French officer in the Foreign Legion, known for his involvement in the Indochina and Algerian Wars. A paratrooper captain, he later joined the Secret Army Organization (OAS), of which he was one of the leaders. After his exile and amnesty, he became a writer and politician, publishing several books on military honor and French Algeria. He also served as a National Front deputy in the 1980s.
