André STIL (1921–2004) The Green Tree in Motion, ca. 1977 Original ink drawing Signed in ink On paper, 24 x 15.5 cm PROVENANCE: This drawing comes from the personal collection of Pierre Lhoste. A radio journalist, Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thus creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: André Stil was a French writer and journalist. He served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper *L’Humanité* from 1950 to 1959 and was a member of the Central Committee of the French Communist Party. He received the Stalin Peace Prize in 1952. He published numerous novels, including *Le Premier Choc* (Stalin Prize, 1952), *Le Cœur battant* (1959), and *Le Combat des jours* (1965). He was a member of the Académie Goncourt from 1977 to 2001.
