Radio journalist Pierre Lhoste (1913–1984) asked the prominent figures he interviewed to provide an autograph accompanied by a drawing of a tree, thereby creating a unique record of his interviews. INFORMATION: Edward Thorp is an American mathematician, professor, author, and investor. In his book *Beat the Dealer*, he mathematically proved that it was possible to beat the casino at blackjack through card counting, and he also co-invented one of the first portable computers with Claude Shannon.
